“with Rubicon, Eilertsen steps confidently up to the spotlight as leader, delivering an album that, with lessons learned from his existing body of work, opens his music up to even greater interpretive possibilities than ever before”

Review in AllAboutJazz

“The band swings with a seductive lightness, and the quality of the tunes and the ever-changing tonal interest keep lifting the predominantly low-lit mood”

Dear all!

Thank you so much for the year of 2015! It has been wonderful with a lot of memorable experiences for me.

Musically looking back and suming up:

Skydive Trio  released our album “Sun Moee” on the Hubro-label.

We toured around quite a bit and rounded off the year with a great week in Japan in December.

Rubicon got the opportunity to perform 7 concerts in Norway. Loved it! We also recorded in Rainbow Studio, Oslo, an album to be released now in May by the great ECM-label. Looking forward! We also recorded in Rainbow Studio, Oslo, an album to be released in May on ECM.

Among other things, I got to do several memorable performances around with the fiddle-maestro Nils Økland supporting the release of the album “Kjølvatn”.
Also a trip to Italy with Trygve Seim and his quartet, travelled all the way to South Korea with Bobo Stenson and Jon Fält in september.
To Denmark and Austria with Mark Solborg/Peter Brun as well as some perfromances in Estonia with Kristjan Randalu and Markku Ounaskari. And of course the christmas bonanza with The Source recently!

Got to be part of brand new releases by guitar-maestro Andreas Aase (“Fir”) and also of course Mathias Eick (“Midwest”) earlier this year.

I feel so privileged to be able to travel, meet and make music together with and in front of people and audiences in so many various places, to experience and learn that we all seem to share the same dreams, desires and visions wherever your home is and your religion might be.

2016 includes some nice surprises and hopefully a lot of good music and good experiences and adventures.
Looking forward!
Take care everybody, and remember:

Support live music! Support your local live music provider! See you all around!

Proud and pleased that the Rubicon-project has been recorded, mixed and is ready for release in 2016 for ECM!

Originally commissioned by Vossa Jazz-festival in 2014 and recorded in Rainbow Studio Oslo by Jan Erik Kongshaug and mixed with the help of maestro Manfred Eicher.

Featuring
Trygve Seim, soprano and tenor sax
Eirik Hegdal, clarinet, bass clarinet, soprano and barytone sax
Rob Waring, marimba and vibraphone
Thomas T Dahl, guitar
Harmen Fraanje, piano and fender rhodes

Very happy with the result and extremely grateful for the wonderful playing and all the input, creativity and contributions from my good friends in the band.

September has been truly fantastic so far.  Been fortunate to perform 7 concerts in Estonia in a trio-format with Estonian pianist Kristjan Randalu and finish drummer Markku Ounaskari. I must admit it was one of the most challenging musical experiences I´ve had so far, with (to me, a rubato bassist!) really difficult, fast, but great through-composed music, in odd-meters. But really happy we pulled it of together in a good way and got to learn the music and get on top of it eventually since we had the opportunity to perform the music in Viljandi in addition to 6 sets in Philly Joe´s, Tallinn (2 sets a night 3 days in a row) What a privilege!

Then I traveled to Seoul, South-Korea to play with the swedish maestro Bobo Stenson, pno, and always inspiring Jon Fält , dr. Even though KLM/AirFrance/KoreanAir managed to destroy my bass on the way over there, it was an adventure to be allowed to play with these two marvelous lyrical swedes again.

Some flights, 2 great concerts and a lot of kimchi later, I returned to Norway again only 32 hours after I left Oslo to Seoul, to play concerts with Skydive Trio, with Thomas T Dahl, guitar and Olavi Louhivuori, drums. The music in this trio is really evolving and traveling, I think. We also had a day of rehearsal, 4 concerts and tried out some brand new songs and ideas of ours,  and I even got to finally play the electric-bass again and! So easy to play with these guys and it looks promising for the future!

This week going to Denmark and Austria to play with the dynamic danes Mark Solborg and Peter Brun together with Herb Robertson playing the trumpet.

Good times!

So grateful! After 6 years and around 250 concerts, three wonderful albums for ECM, commisions and performances in clubs, theaters, festivals, hours spent in busses, cars, trains, taxis and planes, great meals, beers and pubs, talks and walks, venues with incredible audiences and experiences almost all over the planet, time has come for me to leave the Tord Gustavsen Quartet.

Being a part of the Quartet has been a fantastic and fruitful journey for me and to be given the opportunity to enter and to affect and to be trusted to be a part of this wonderful world of lyrical sensitive singable compositions together with the incomparable masters and friends Tore Brunborg and Jarle Vespestad has taught me so much on many levels.

I have been playing and sharing a musical journeys with my good friend Tord Gustavsen for more than 15 years so far, in various musical settings throughout the years, with a wide register of artists and I feel that throughout these collaborations Tord and I have developed a special way of playing together and I am certain that we will play more together sometime soon again, somewhere! I am already missing it!

Sometimes it is needed and necessary to look under new stones, around different corners, take a diversion and a risk just to see and pursuit what else is to be found around in the wide world and within myself and what that would give to creativity.
Plans are made and being processed and dived into as we speak!

sincerly
